This Privacy Policy explains what information Muster Up ("we," "us," "our") collects when you use the Muster Up app and website, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Muster Up, you agree to this policy.
If you have questions, contact us at
tacfit2025@gmail.com or through our
contact form.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information — your name, email address, password, and profile photo when you register
- Sign in with Apple or Google — if you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique account identifier from that provider, your email address (or, with Apple, the private relay address you choose), and your name if you share it. We never receive your Apple or Google password.
- Profile content — your bio, display name, and any additional details you choose to add
- Activity submissions — the type of activity you logged, duration, distance, photos and videos you attach as evidence, and any text descriptions
- Camera-verified sessions — the session results described in Section 5 (activity type, duration, rep count, completion status, and an optional completion photo and note)
- Mood check-ins — the daily mood values you submit
- Messages — the content of team chat messages and direct messages you send to other users
- Comments and reactions — likes, comments, and other interactions on the activity feed
- Buddy connections — your buddy requests and accepted connections
- Invitations — the phone numbers or email addresses of friends you choose to invite
- Support requests — anything you submit through our contact form
Information collected automatically
- Usage data — screens you visit, features you use, and timestamps of activity
- Device information — device type, operating system, and browser type
- Product analytics — we use PostHog and HeyCatch to understand which features are used and where the app has problems. This data is tied to your account ID so we can troubleshoot issues, and is never used for advertising.
- Push notification tokens — when you enable notifications, we receive a token from Apple or your browser so we can deliver alerts
- Session cookies — used to keep you logged in
Apple Health data (with your permission)
On iOS, if you choose to connect Apple Health, Muster Up reads the health and fitness data listed below. We only read this data — Muster Up never writes to Apple Health.
- Workouts — type, duration, calories, and distance
- Recovery metrics — heart rate variability, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, body temperature, and sleep
- Activity metrics — exercise minutes, active energy burned, and walking and running distance
Payment information
If you enter a paid competition, your payment is processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered into and handled by Stripe directly; Muster Up never sees or stores your card number. We keep a record of the payment (competition, amount, status, and Stripe's transaction reference) so we can confirm your entry.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and maintain your account
- Show your activity, points, and team standing within competitions
- Display your name, photo, and submissions to teammates and other competition participants
- Send transactional emails (verification, password resets, competition updates)
- Send push notifications you've opted into
- Verify activity submissions, run camera-verified sessions, and award points
- Confirm paid competition entries
- Operate team chat and direct messaging
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our terms
- Improve the app and develop new features
- Respond to support requests
How we use Apple Health data
If you connect Apple Health, we use that data only to provide app features — specifically to automatically log your training in competitions, to calculate your daily "Readiness" recovery score, and to display your activity stats.
We do not use Apple Health data for advertising or marketing, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising or data mining. Apple Health data is transmitted only to our secure servers so we can calculate and display your scores and activity.
Connecting Apple Health is optional and opt-in. You can revoke Muster Up's access at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security → Health → Muster Up, or by disconnecting inside the Muster Up app.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:
- With other Muster Up users — your name, profile photo, activity submissions, points, leaderboard position, and chat messages are visible to teammates and other users in shared competitions
- With service providers who help us operate Muster Up:
- SendGrid — to deliver transactional and notification emails
- Stripe — to process payments for paid competitions
- Google Cloud — to host uploaded photos and videos
- Giphy — when you select a GIF in chat, requests are made to Giphy's servers
- PostHog and HeyCatch — to collect the product analytics described in Section 1
- fairmeeting.net (fairkom) — to run team video calls; your audio and video streams pass through their servers during a call and are not recorded or stored by Muster Up
- For legal reasons — if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Muster Up, our users, or others
- In a business transfer — if Muster Up is acquired or merged, your information may be transferred to the new owner
4. Photos, Videos, and Camera Access
When you submit activity evidence, you may upload a photo or video. These uploads are stored securely in cloud storage and are visible to:
- You
- Your teammates in the relevant competition
- Other competition participants viewing the activity feed
- Muster Up administrators for moderation purposes
You can delete your own activity submissions at any time from within the app.
Team video calls use your camera and microphone only while you are in a call. Calls are live only — Muster Up does not record, store, or replay call audio or video.
5. Camera-Verified Sessions
Some activities can be completed as a camera-verified session, in which your device's camera and microphone confirm that you are present and working for the duration of the session. Using this feature is your choice; you can always submit activities with regular photo or video evidence instead. Here is exactly what happens during a verified session:
- Processing stays on your device. Camera frames are analyzed on your phone or computer in real time to detect that a person is in the frame and, for rep-counted exercises such as push-ups and squats, to track body position and count repetitions. The video is never recorded, never stored, and never sent to our servers or to anyone else.
- No facial recognition. The camera check only detects whether a person is present. It does not identify who you are, does not compare your face to any other image, and does not create or store a faceprint or any other biometric identifier.
- Microphone check. During timed sessions, your device measures the loudness of your surroundings to confirm you are in a focused environment. Only a noise level is measured. Audio is never recorded, stored, or transmitted.
- What we receive. While the session runs, the app sends our servers periodic "still active" signals with a timestamp. When it ends, we record the activity type, session length, rep count (for rep-counted exercises), whether the session completed or was voided, and the start and end times. These results are used to award points and appear in your activity history and competition standings like any other activity.
- Optional completion photo and note. When a session finishes, the app can take a single still photo so you can share proof with your team. Sending it is optional — you can skip it — and if you include it, it is treated like any other evidence photo (see Section 4). You may also add a note, which you can mark as private so only you and administrators can see it.
- Practice mode. Practice sessions use the same on-device processing, and no results are recorded.
You can revoke camera or microphone access at any time in your device settings. Doing so disables camera-verified sessions but does not affect the rest of the app.
6. Push Notifications
If you enable push notifications, we use Apple Push Notification service or your browser's notification system to deliver alerts about activity updates, team messages, mission tasks, competition events, and announcements. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings or in the Muster Up app's notification preferences.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or to resolve disputes. Anonymized aggregate data (such as overall competition statistics) may be retained indefinitely.
8. Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information through your profile settings
- Delete your account and personal information by contacting us or using in-app account deletion
- Export a copy of your data by contacting us
- Opt out of non-essential email and push notifications through your account settings
- Withdraw consent for data processing at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at tacfit2025@gmail.com or through our contact form.
If you are a resident of California, the EU, the UK, or another jurisdiction with specific privacy laws, you may have additional rights under those laws. We honor those rights as required.
9. Children's Privacy
Muster Up is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and secure cloud storage, to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.
11. International Users
Muster Up is operated from the United States. If you use Muster Up from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. Your continued use of Muster Up after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
